Who am I? And why should you trust me to teach you about web marketing?

I've been a massage therapist for over 20 years. I love massage and feel that it's my mission to play my role in making touch a positive social value. I'm also a marketing and business expert who has been featured at conventions and trade publications around the world. I've owned clinics, pioneered chair massage in Canada, and have taught thousands of students in extensive colleges programs and in workshops.

I'm an expert on the using the web as a marketing tool. I was one of the first ones doing online business education for massage professionals through BodyworkBiz in 2002. I am the mind behind projects like Massage Therapy Radio and the World Massage Conference, probably one of the most innovative web projects in the massage industry and the largest event in the history of massage with close to 12,000 registrants.

It seems as though everyone and their mother has opinions on how they should create a website and what service they should use. My advice is this: Listen to someone who is successful on the web, not people who simply have thoughts on how to be successful. Listen to experience rather than hearsay.

I've been using the web since before it was the web. I've become a specialist in web design and search engine optimization. I've written over 100 websites for massage professionals (almost all of which have first page rankings in Google) and I have developed dozens more for companies ranging from restaurants and consultants, to software developers and schools.

Here in a nutshell are some of my thoughts on creating websites:
  • Every business ABSOLUTELY needs a website
  • Expensive websites are not necessarily better websites, however...
  • You need to make an investment of either time or money in your website. If you don't have money, then invest your time in developing yourself. If you don't have time, pay someone to do it for you.
  • Even a crappy website is almost always better than no website (although this depends on the level of crappiness)
  • The simpler something is to do the more likely it is to get done
  • Your website will never be perfect, so don't make that an excuse for not creating one.
  • Just get started

Am I looking to get some work out of this website? I'm pretty much too busy to take on any projects, but if you need help drop me a line and I can give you a recommendation for someone who is truly qualified to help you out. I have a lot of compassion for my fellow business owners and I'd rather hook you up with the right person, than see you waste your money.

Enjoy the course,

Eric Brown
